I am looking into an application that requires thin stainless steel sheet, grade 301, 0.4mm or 0.5mm thick, to be cut or machined into discs of varying sizes. The discs are generally cut from 1 meter square sheets and the problem is after cutting, regardless of machining method ie laser, wire erosion, cut by hand etc. the discs distort and no longer remain flat, which is critical for the application they are used in.
I know from research this is overcome with the correct heat treatment but I cant find details or a supplier who can offer this. Can anyone recommend a suitable material supplier who is able to heat treat the material beforehand or alternatively advise a suitable heat treatment procedure to prevent this problem and keep the material stable after machining.
